The purpose of this piece was to make the walk way like a tunnel and give the students an opportunity to share what they think their future will hold. I think it was successful because lots of people participated and all of the colors make it stand out. If we were to do it again i think it would be a good idea to add more questions and give a certain color of paper to each question. I would also put it somewhere else because I thik it would be interesting to see what people who have already finished school would say so its not just "college" or "jail"

For this project I used clay to make another tile. I think the only successful thing about this project was the way that the turtle's shell looks. If i could change anything I would take more time on the drawing, glazed better, and I would have been more careful because I carved through it a bunch of times. It's a miracle that it didn't break. My project is related to nature because it's a sea turtle and they live in the ocean.
First I drew the palm tree. Next I traced it onto saran wrap and used that to transfer the picture on to the tile that I rolled out of clay. After that I carved the outside around the palm tree and added the coconuts then fired it. After it was fired I painted it with glaze and put glass around the tree and fired it again. Now it looks like that.
Gabriel SchamaGabriel Schama is from Oakland, California, and makes his sculptures from mahogany plywood. He uses a laser to cut multiple layers which end up creating portraits and geometric designs. I love how the different layers give the pieces a sense of motion. The size of each carving makes it even more impressive. He uses all of the space so well by filling almost every inch with unique details.
