I was inspired by the piece because I loved the colors and the shapes. We chose it because we thought we would be able to do a lot with it.
We created stackable boxes out of cardboard. Its related to the piece because we used a similar design on it. The piece is by Frank Stella. Its called "Raqqa II" and is 120 X 300 inches and is made of synthetic polymer.

!. Throughout the class I used many tools. For almost every project I used sand paper. I used this to smooth out my work before I painted it. I also used a needle tool for all of myclay projects. The needle tool helped me carve into the clay, and cut it. I used the pottery wheel one time. I used it to make a vessel piece. 2. In my art 1 class, we did mostly paintings, and drawings, so I had very little knowledge of ceramics. On the first day I learned about all of the tools you can use. I also thought that this class was going to be mostly bowls and figurative pieces. Throughout the semester I learned the different things you could make and the process. I also think my drawing skills improved with the illustration Fridays. 1. My favorite material that we used in this class was clay. My most successful pieces were made of clay. To me, it was the easiest, and most fun to work with. I also loved being able to use the glaze. I learned the most about the clay in this class. 3. My most successful piece this semester was the mini tile. THe theme was nature, and it was really small. I think it was most successful because of the size, I was more careful. I drew the palmtree first and then transferred it to saran wrap and used that to make an imprint if the shape on the clay. After that, I made the imprints deeper and carved out the inside. AFter it was fired, I used glaze to paint it and i melted glass in the empty spaces. 12. My least favorite material to work with was cardboard. It was hard to cut things straight through all of the layers. It was also very difficult to make everything stay in place. I dealt with it by doing the torched and being exempt from the bedroom thing. Making the boxes was also difficult. Even though we used rulers to cut out the squares, they always came out uneven.
Person: Olivia
Medium: Clay Where she is going: She is going to use clay and put it in the mold, and make two faces. Next shes gonna put them together and make a double sided head. I had lots of problems with the wire outline but I overcame them by starting over. When i made it bigger it was easier and more successful. I think the shape was most successful but i would fix the legs. It stands up on its own but the back legs are pushed inward because they were shorter and i was too lazy to redo the wire. I started with a wire outline then I stuffed it with plastic bags to give it shape. Next I did paper mache with news paper, water, and flower. Then I covered it in joint compound, and sanded it down, After that I painted it,
Alessandra RossiAlessandra Rossi is does her work in Bondi. She uses glass and stone to create a girl standing in the grass. I am inspired by this because I love the different color choices that she uses. The metaphor behind this piece is "the discoloration of emotion and engendered by the digital era." I think the message behind this piece is very creative, and thoughtful.
So far for this project I have used wire to make an outline of the figure. After that i stuffed it with grocery bags, and did paper mache with news paper over that. After that dried I covered it with joint compound. I am currently in the process of smoothing it out so I can paint it. I plan on doing one or two more layers of the joint compound, then I will sand it after it dries. After that, I am going to paint it with acrylic paint.
First I made a slab and wrapped it around one of the spray bottles. I made a bottom for it then put the face on it. Then they were fired and i glazed them.
It was difficult thinking of different faces, and keeping the slabs from cracking. I used water to keep it from breaking. I think they're successful because they didn't break, and they stand up straight. They are big enough to hold plants and I guess they aren't that ugly. I created these because I really like plants. I also thought it would be funny to call them pot heads because they're flower pots and faces. |
